Beneficial

Flaxseed is an oil seed and contains 41% fat, 28% fiber and 21% protein.
With many people following a "low-fat" diet to avoid being overweight and doing their best to stay healthy, why is our nation still gaining so much weight? It's not too much fat in our diets (literally) killing us but too little of the "right" kinds of fat. Essential fatty acids, or EFA's, as found in flaxseeds, are required for our overall health, including proper fat metabolism, energy production, regulation of cell functions, and healing of tissues and injuries. Flaxseed, a "good" fat, can both help us stay fit and healthy, while unhealthy "bad" fats compromise our health and performance.
Other names for Flaxseed Oil are flaxseed, flax, linseed oil, linseed.

Why athletes use Flaxseed Oil

Active people report that flaxseed supplements help them recover more quickly after workouts and help decrease post-workout muscle soreness. Researchers believe this effect may be because flaxseed has both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Researchers also believe flaxseed oil may increase the body's metabolic rate and help the body burn fat more quickly. Many athletes report that using flaxseed oil in their diets helps their sprains and bruises heal more rapidly. According to some findings, minor injuries can take only one-quarter of the healing time previously required.

Ways that Flaxseed Oil can enhance Muscle Gain & Recovery:

Decrease inflammation to help decrease muscle soreness and improve flexibility
Improve healing and aid in recovery by contributing to the structural integrity of cells
Ways that Flaxseed Oil can enhance Fat Loss:
Support healthy weight reduction by increasing the body's metabolic rate, making fats burn more rapidly.
Potential uses for Flaxseed Oil

Research indicates that Flaxseed Oil may be useful in the treatment of:
Obesity
Arthritis
Constipation
Herpes
Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Skin conditions, such as eczema or psoriasis
Cancer
High-protein dieters take special note

Too much protein in our daily diet and what tends to happen? The unpleasantness of constipation occurs. Working in opposition of protein's tendency to constipate, flaxseed oil helps soften protein-hardened stool, allowing us to be more "regular." And it does so without adding "fattening" or bad fats to the diet.

Another study that is noteworthy shows free testosterone levels tend to drop drastically when "low-fat" diets or calorie-restricted diets are employed. Even a small decrease in dietary fats was revealed to have reduced the amount of free testosterone by 13%. However, with the introduction of healthy, "good" fats into the diet, researchers found subjects free testosterone levels increased. Clearly, supplementing with flaxseed oil during times of dieting would appear useful for those seeking to increase or at least preserve their lean mass.
In conclusion

While the research continues on, many sports nutrition experts are already highly recommending this powerful "good" fat. Because the research has already revealed flaxseed may support healthy hormone secretions, decrease muscle soreness, and fight both free radicals and inflammation, at the very least, it could supply your body with an extra aid for recovery and allow you to exercise more intensely — or just plain live a healthier life.
I am quite amazed what comes out from our very own earth. I have only just started taking flaxseed oil again. I can't beieve I stopped using it a few years ago.
The benefits are very impressive!
Anybody else using it? If so how much do you take daily?

Feeling

Confession time I guess :-(
Saturday night I had a glass of red wine over dinner, only that wasn't the end of it. I ended up loosing count as to how much wine I had consumed that evening. I don't know how I could have lost control like that.

The funny thing is, it was a buffet dinner and I only ate a few natural oyster's, some lean meat I found on the buffet table and veg's. I didn't even look at the dessert bar. I ate very well lol. I didn't let the fresh breads, or the scrumptous pasta meals even tempt me slightly, and yet I keep right on drinking. Strange!

Well let me tell from experience that when you have been dieting for 4 weeks straight that consuming alcohol does not go down so well the next day.

Boy I was so sick, I completely lost my Sunday in trying desperately to stay on track with the diet and to feel better. I felt queezy and light headed and all I wanted to do was sleep. I was fighting the strongest cravings for pizza all day.

I didn't give in, I stuck to my diet and got out of bed and drank loads of water. I put myself to bed last night a 9pm and had a great sleep.

The good news is that from all that guilt I made sure to give my session today at the gym everything I had plus more. I had a smashing day on the weights today and am feeling better.

Well im off to catch up on some blog reading :-), this always picks me up even more.

Hot Hot Hot

I am one of these people who simply love hot food. Chilli is my favorite addition to some of my meals. And here is what I found out about them...........

Chillis are loaded with vitamin A, a potent antioxidant and boost to the immune system. As the pods mature and darken, high quantities of vitamin C are gradually replaced with beta carotene and the capsaicin levels are at their highest. Due to these capsaicin levels, some believe that eating chillis may have an extra thermic affect, temporarily speeding up the metabolic rate, hence burning off calories at a faster rate.

And guess what? I am a fan of endorphins! The natural producing painkiller.

Endorphines

The release of endorphins lowers the blood pressure, a major indicator in heart disease, and has even been implicated in the fight against cancer.

Endorphins are best known to those who exercise a lot, and give rise to what is known as the 'runner's high'. Their release is caused by all pain, including that caused by chillies. Thus a dose of hot chillies will cause the release of these compounds, without any permanent harm.

Very satisfied

houlder Press

After a restful day off yesterday and a good nights sleep I was happy to hit the gym this morning.

The only thing playing on my mind a little was that I had to go back up in weight today on the DB shoulder presses. Two weeks ago JD put me on this particular weight, but I couldn't do it, was much to heavy and I barely achieved 3 reps on the first set. The second set was a disaster!

So today I knew I had to challenge myself with these DB's. I warmed up with some lighter weights, then walked up to the monster's who I was ready to take on lol.

My target was 2 sets @ 6 - 8 reps.

First set I pushed out 7 reps woohoo. Second set 6 reps. My PB today! So as you can imagine, I smashed the rest of my shoulder and tricep day. It feels great, I felt pumped when I left the gym today.

I can feel myself getting stronger and I can see my body changing, getting harder. I just hope I can take some more fat off. (I know, I know, be patient). Bekki is being patient and I should do the same ;-)

Figure V's Physique

"Please Help" is what this heading should say!
I really need more help with knowing the differences between "figure" competitors and "physique" competitors.

Lia did mention that in figure they pose with open hands and where heels. And I heard that physique is more muscle and leaner. leaner? looking at Lia's and Rae's pics, how can you possibly be leaner?

So anyway my dilemma is which way do I go? When I first met Josh I sent him my pictures prior to starting my program and he mentioned I should compete in Physique.
I really want to remain as feminine as possible so this concerns me a little.

Last night I asked him again. Basically he said that Physique competitors are still feminine. And that it was up to me to decide. Me decide? Im a libran lol. I change my mind every single minute! I still feel that he is leaning toward Physique, but that's just a hunch.

So if anyone reads this and would like to comment, I would love some help. Or perhaps (now im pushing it) someone could write about it in there blog :-). Either way I would appreciate it.

Since starting my diet I have grown an addiction to "cucumbers".
I eat them with my lean meat (chicken breast) for dinner. My hubby peals them and cuts them up for me so all I do is add salt and away I go!

Nutritional facts:

This food is low in Saturated Fat, and very low in Cholesterol and Sodium. It is also a good source of Vitamin A, Pantothenic Acid, Magnesium, Phosphorus and Manganese, and a very good source of Vitamin C, Vitamin K and Potassium.

Complete Turn-Around

I woke up this morning knowing I had a pretty challenaging leg day today, and after feeling drained yesterday all I could do was to try and focus on what I was needed to do.

So after a heavy hack squat which I was impressed with because there was an increase in weight today and I hit the number of reps required Roll, I then went on to do Lunges. I managed my first set, 8 reps being the required amount today. I was then standing there thinking "how the heck am I going to do that again"?
At that point in time a lady approaches me who I barely knew and said "oh my goodness you look great, you have changed a lot since I first saw you here". (I have been there for about 3 months).
She must have told me at least 3 times that I looked good and had improved so much.

I was so flattered I can't begin to explain. I then started my last set of lunges and before I realized it I had hit 8 reps, easily!

I then went on to complete my leg day with amaing results.

Boy, can you imagine how high my spirits are today, from that one comment today I was able to feel on top of the world, train hard, and have a positive reflection on everyone I have been in contact with today. It certainly has a snowball effect.

My short term goal

My problem for as long as I can remember has been that I am to obesed with my body image. This has been a terrible strain on the way I handle life in general. Constantly worrying about what other people think of me.

The thing is I am not "overweight", just not happy with my physique, not happy where the fat sits on my body and how it makes me look when i wear certain clothes.

Now at 33 years of age and after trying every diet and exercise program known to man (or should I say woman?) I have found Josh. I have started a 12 week one-on-one program with him.

I am currently through the first 3 weeks of this program already. Things have been going really well. I have been getting stronger each week and am still increasing my weights at the gym.

My diet has gone better then I could have expected, I consume many small meals a day, and take 4 -5 protein shakes a day too Shocked.

I have noticed my clothes are a little looser around the waist. (I will not stand on those darn scales!).

So, up until last Friday I was full of energy and on top of the world. As of Saturday, well I have been feeling drained and run down. Just feeling very weak and a little emotional. I hope this is a passing phase, im sure it is.

So this is my short term goal, to complete this 12 week program with JD and see results.

Thank you Lia for inviting me to start up this blog, I think it makes a difference writting things down, it makes you think about what you are going through and evaluate things aswell.

P.s. Still new to blogging and am trying to work everything out. Bare with me Eyebrow .
